Prof. Dani Zamir

Prof. Genetics and Plant Breeding at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem

Zamir holds a Ph.D. from the University of California, Davis, specializing in plant genetics. Since then his lab at the Hebrew University aims to develop approaches to enhance the rate of progress in breeding using tomato as a model.

Zamir served as the co-chair of the Steering Committee of The International SOL Genome Project (2003-2011) that sequenced Solanaceae genomes and received Kaye Innovation Prize from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

He has been a founder and Chief Scientist of ‘AB Seeds’ an Israeli company, presently owned by Monsanto, that developed the hybrid tomato AB2, which led the processing market in California from 2005 to 2008. Zamir was also a founder of ‘Phenome Networks’ a company that is developing bioinformatic solutions for plant breeding.
